EUTHYROID SICK SYNDROME: PREVALENCE AND PROGNOSIS IN ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH SEPSIS
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: Euthyroid sick syndrome (ESS) manifests by the decreased level of serum free thyroid hormones and with normal or secretion thyroid-stimulating hormone. The study aims to identify prevalence ESS in elderly patients sepsis evaluate its possible effect on prognosis mortality. Material Methods: Two hundred three diagnosed were prospectively evaluated. They divided into two groups, a geriatric group (≥65 years), control (<65 years). Patients low T3 (fT3) and/or T4 (fT4) considered have euthyroid-sick syndrome. demographic characteristics, comorbidities, laboratory results, hospitalization data, intensive care unit (ICU) duration, treatment outcomes, mortality rates recorded compared. Results: incidence was significantly higher (88.5% vs. 77.8%) (p=0.04). There no difference between groups regard rate ICU stay. However, 91.3% deceased entire all (+) patients. mean fT3 patients, (p=0.017). Additionally, levels fT4 both associated stay (p-value: 0.020 0.019, respectively). Conclusions: (88.5%) clearly demonstrated. approximately two-fold risk documented group. Thus, simply screening septic will certainly contribute decisions early prediction complicated clinical course poor prognosis.

Plasma selenium concentrations in patients with euthyroid sick syndrome.
We evaluated plasma selenium concentrations in patients with euthyroid sick syndrome express by low serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations. Selenium status in these patients was compared with that found in patients with both untreated and treated hypothyroidism. Selenium concentrations in plasma were significantly lower in hospitalized patients with either euthyroid sick syndrome (0.99 +/- ...

Abnormalities in the circulating thyroid hormone concentration, without associated pituitary or thyroid disease, are seen in a variety of nonthyroidal illnesses (NIH). These abnormalities may be low plasma triiodothyronine (T3), low thyroxine (T4) or a combination of both, with an inappropriately normal plasma thyrotropin (TSH). These could be because of various factors acting on monodeiodinase...
متن کاملSick euthyroid syndrome is associated with poor prognosis in patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous intervention.
BACKGROUND Concomitant thyroid and heart disease are frequently encountered in clinical practice. There are many studies evaluating thyroid function in acute and critical conditions. Information on thyroid dysfunction in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is limited; its correlation with short and long-term outcome is not fully known. METHODS Four hundred and fifty seven patie...
